People have died from tobacco-related diseases since the opening of the first FCTC working group on 28 October 1999.
Your donation helps us fight the devastating effects of the tobacco epidemic worldwide
Tobacco use causes 1 in 10 adult deaths. It killed 100 million people in the 20th century and if current trends are unchanged, it will kill 1 billion this century.
Global public health leaders responded to this epidemic by drafting the world’s first modern-day public health treaty, the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC), which came into force in 2005.
FCA is made up of nearly 500 organisations from more than 100 countries that support the development and implementation of the FCTC. The Convention now has 180 Parties, representing nearly 90 percent of the world’s population.
We also advocate for recognition of the key role that tobacco control can play in global health and development structures, including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Your donation will allow us to continue doing important work such as:
- Support implementation of decisions taken at COP6 on tobacco taxes, illicit trade, the role of tobacco control in development and other issues. Your support will pay for production and translation of adovcacy materials, conference calls of our global task forces and other work.
- Via our FCTC: Action Now! campaign, support advocates working in-country to get FCTC implementation in their countries’ development plans, including the UN Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF).
Framework Convention Alliance is a non-profit, tax exempt organisation registered in Switzerland. All donations will receive an official electronic acknowledgement.
