In his role as Executive Director of ASH (US), Laurent described the tobacco epidemic in the global context on Your Health Matters, a programme of Rowan University radio.
“Overall there’s an understanding of the problem, and I think there’s a willingness to act, but there’s a lack of awareness across the whole of government,” said Laurent.
“Every minister should be a health minister to some extent … there should be a coordinated, coherent response when it comes to public health activities,” he added.
Eduardo discussed the Philip Morris challenge to Uruguay’s tobacco control measures on The Current, a radio programme of Canada’s public broadcaster, CBC.
“Uruguay was just a pawn in this chess game. The real intention of Philip Morris was using Uruguay to scare other Latin American countries and other developing countries so they don’t follow the example of Uruguay,” Eduardo told The Current.
