Osun bans public smoking

An inland state of south-western Nigeria, Osun, has banned smoking in public spaces. The ban carries penalties a three to six months jail term and or fines between N10, 000 to N250, 000 (roughly $US66.00 - $US1650.00).

The ban aims to protect non-smokers from the dangers of tobacco smoke in public places like schools, health centers, sporting areas, court buildings, factories, cinemas, theatres, video houses, disco halls and any other public facilities.
