14 May 2010: The United Nations General Assembly adopts a resolution on the prevention and control of no communicable diseases (NCDs), which aims to stop increasing premature deaths caused by NCDs worldwide.   This resolution, calls upon Member States and the international community to:
•    convene a high-level meeting of the General Assembly in September 2011 (with the participation of Heads of State and Government) on NCD prevention and control;
•    include at the High-level Plenary Meeting next September to review the Millennium Development Goals discussions on the rising incidence and the socio-economic impact of  NCDs in developing countries; and
•    requests the UN Secretary-General to prepare a global status report on NCDs - focusing on the developmental challenges faced by developing countries.
