Brazil backs tobacco product regulations

During COP-4, Brazil’s Health Ministry also plans to present other ways to reduce tobacco consumption such as education campaigns and warnings on packaging.

Later this week Brazil’s senate is expected to approve a bill that prohibits smokehouses across the country, which will affect about 50,000 tobacco producers in the south of the country.

To combat this the Ministry of Agrarian Development has a program of crop diversification as an alternative for farmers.
