Brunei boosts warnings and non-smoking areas

10 Mar 2012

The new warnings will come into effect on 1 September 2012, while prohibition on smoking in certain areas was scheduled to be enforced from 1 March 2011.

As quoted in the Brunei Times, the country’s Minister of Health said new non-smoking areas would include sidewalks near business premises and a six-metre radius from any building where smoking is banned, as well as public staircases, hospitals, medical clinics, factories, workshops, financial institutions, bus and taxi stops, stadiums, gymnasiums, restaurants, markets, cinemas and many others.

Brunei joins Canada and Australia in having picture warnings covering 75 percent of tobacco packages.
