Over 300 civil society delegates from 68 countries participated in the second Global Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) Alliance Forum. They shared insights on fighting NCDs ahead of the third UN High-level Meeting on NCDs in 2018. Francis Thompson, FCA Executive Director, Tih Ntiabang FCA Regional Coordinator Cameroon, Dr. Eduardo Bianco, FCA Regional Coordinator Uruguay, Mischa Terzyk, FCA Policy and Advocacy Officer and other FCA members attended the Forum in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates from 9-11 December 2017.
With NCD Alliance, FCA was the co-lead of a workshop on leveraging accountability efforts in NCDs. During this session, FCA Executive Director, Francis Thompson presented the tobacco control lessons learnt by FCA through its shadow reporting and the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC). FCA Regional Coordinator, Tih Ntiabang participated in a panel discussion about good practices to deliver on organisations’ specific objectives while building national and global NCD alliances.
Highlights of the Forum included the launch of the National and Regional NCD Alliances in Action: An Atlas of Civil Society Initiatives and the Advocacy Agenda of People Living with NCDs, the release of a Youth Call to Action on NCDs and the unveiling of a Civil Society Commitments Map to step up the pace on NCDs.
