As your duly elected board members, it is our responsibility to you, FCA’s members, to ensure that FCA is able to support implementation of the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) at the global level, so that it facilitates your own efforts at national and subnational levels, in both the short-term and long-term.
Membership engagement has been underscored in this year’s organisational goals because it is vital not only to FCA’s current work but also to our future activities, especially when we begin to review FCA’s strategic direction later this year and to plan for 2014.
We would like to reiterate that FCA’s past success has always been underscored by the fact that we are an Alliance with a common vision and concerted action. In the past year, many of you have identified this as one of our main strengths, and we believe this will also be key to ensuring that FCA continues to make a difference in international tobacco control and global health.
We are therefore reaching out to you to say: the FCA is YOUR organization. Since its inception, FCA’s work has been based on a consensus among members, which is best based on broad participation. If you are new to FCA or have not been so active, we urge you to join in the various FCA initiatives, including – but not limited to – issue-based task forces, webinars at the global and regional level and regular advocacy actions to support FCA’s campaigns.
In summary, thank you for your support and for being part of the FCA, and we look forward to even stronger collaboration ahead.
For the FCA Board of Directors,
Ulysses (‘Yul’) Dorotheo, Chair
