This fact sheet discusses the need and cost benefits for a cooperative approach to combating illict trade of tobacco products.
The fact sheet states,
‘the illicit trade in tobacco products is a major international problem that requires an international solution – to reduce tobacco use and save lives, combat organized crime and recoup $US billions in lost government revenue’.
In addition to discussing the financial impact of illicit tobacco trade generally, this fact sheet also cover the areas of;
- Public Health Impact of the Illicit Tobacco Trade;
- Economic Impact of the Illicit Tobacco Trade; and
- Public Safety Impact of the Illicit Tobacco Trade.
The fact sheet discusses a solution to addressing these issues, namely, the development of an Illicit Trade Protocol.
