Maldives hosts high-level advocacy forum on tobacco control

The event’s purpose was to raise awareness on the dangers of tobacco, to learn from success stories around the region and most importantly, to advocate to decision-makers the importance of tobacco control.

The forum was addressed by Dr Arvind Mathur, WHO Representative to Maldives and His Excellency Vice President Mr Abdulla Jihad. The Vice-President highlighted the WHO campaign to make Maldives tobacco-free, and pronounced the vision of Smoke Free Home, Smoke Free Generation.

Also attending the forum were Minister of Health Mr Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim and other ministers and government officials, and Dr Vera Da Costa, Head of the Secretariat of the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control.
