The Framework Convention Alliance’s vision for a world free from death and disease caused by tobacco took one step closer to being realized today with the launch of the Alliance’s new website.
The website consolidates all of the Alliance’s information that relates to the World Health Organization’s international treaty – the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC).
Features of the site include:
- the latest news and press releases;
- membership directory;
- the latest country ratification status;
- most recent policy papers;
- upcoming events; and
- bulletins from each international meeting.
The country ratification status web page is particularly useful for alliance members to see which countries have ratified the treaty and what percentage of the world’s population that represents.
Alliance members can also provide details about their organization’s upcoming events, which will be updated on the website for free.
Alliance director Laurent Huber said the new website reflects the growing support for global tobacco control.
“During the last year the alliance’s membership numbers increased by a third and we now have a total membership of 383 members in 103 countries – with this figure still growing,” said Huber.
“With an increasingly more active membership, as well as a much-welcomed boost in support from our funders and an increase in staffing at both the core and regional levels, the alliance looks forward to moving ever closer to its vision of a world free from the death and disease caused by tobacco.”
