Senegal passes tobacco control law!

  •  A ban on all tobacco advertising, promotion and sponsorship;
  • Increased tobacco taxes, with revenues used to finance tobacco control;
  • A ban on smoking in public places, except bars, hotels and airports;
  • Graphic health warnings covering 70 percent of the front and back of cigarette packs.

Additionally, the law permits civil society organisations to file a legal complaint against violations of the law.

The law imposes fines of up to US$100 for smoking in public and more than $400,000 for violating the advertising ban.
